Whatever it is, we'll deal with it. Do you need me to meet you somewhere? He's wary, but he's not about to abandon Duo to deal with whatever this is on his own. Wufei has made promises, and said things he can't and won't take back.

In fact he was sat outside of the house, sat on the steps leading up, knees pulled up to his chest and arms wrapped about them with his device in his hands.

Just waiting for Wufei.

Okay. The man did not know how to take a shortcut. At least not while sober.

About thirty seconds later, he came into view down the road, and padded up to his lover, head tilted a little as he tried to work out what was different. Duo still looked like Duo, all huddled down like that... maybe it was a sense that had been removed? "Duo?" he called out as he neared, even though Duo should've heard his footsteps by then.

Oh he heard... But didn't straighten up or even look up until Wufei was close enough. Though even then it was just to glance up through his bangs.

"Hey, Wu..." That would be Wufei's first clue. Duo's voice would be familiar still, but there was a softer quality to it now, higher, more...feminine. There was the delicate sound of a throat being cleared and then Duo slowly straightened up.

"Y'see... I stopped at a bar for a drink and... Well..." the face that looked up was Duo's. The eyes were the same. But the features had been smoothed out, softer edges, delicate and elflin. Even without seeing her chest, it was clear just what had happened. Duo had been cursed alright. Now he was a she!

Both Wufei's brows went up as he approached. As he heard that voice, saw his lover's face with just that subtle difference, and came to a stop in front of him. Her. He blinked a couple of times, lifting a hand to cover his mouth...

And sounded for a brief second like he was going to start sobbing, before it became extremely clear that he was trying to choke down his laughter. It only took him twenty seconds to stop bother and let out a quiet, heartfelt laugh. "Duo," his tone was almost scolding, like he... she... had made some kind of ridiculous assumption.

The laughter earned Wufei a scowl and a pout... She dropped her head and her chin back onto her bent knees.

"Asshole. Stop laughing. This isn't funny..." He... She... Ugh, this was embarrassing and ridiculous. She should have known better than to go somewhere else to grab a drink. It wasn't even something alcoholic! She'd just been thirsty and stopped off somewhere to get some juice and...

He grinned at her, coming over to plop down next to her and knock her shoulder with his. "What's funny is that you think I'd be upset," he replied, still trying to get ahold of himself. "Here I was worried it was something bad, like going blind, losing your voice, or turning into a monster. You know, something actually troublesome."

But then he was struck with a thought, and went a little tense. "Unless... you're not on your period, are you?"

"For fucks sake, Wufei!" Duo actually recoiled at the thought, pulling back from Wufei and staring at him with wide eyes. Was that even possible? Oh gods, they needed to get this fixed asap, because that was one thing she seriously didn't want to have to deal with!

"And why the hell aren't you more upset?!" this was now bothering her. Duo thought being blind or mute would be so much better than losing your identity. It was so damn weird and she was having a hard time dealing, so Wufei laughing just had her on edge.

He managed not to laugh at that reaction, but it was a close thing. "Sorry, sorry! But it's a possibility, isn't it?" he countered, giving Duo a little elbowing. "And I'm not upset because it's not going to be something terribly difficult to navigate. At least you can go around doing whatever you like -- I was stuck at home for a week while I was blind. As lovely as it was to have your company, it was very distressing to become suddenly dependent upon another person," he shrugged, and slid an arm around her. "Besides, there are advantages. Particularly in the bedroom."

Duo had pulled away but suddenly found herself pulled right back against Wufei's side. She was still angry, but being that close to Wufei, her guard almost immediately lowered and she found herself leaning into his comforting warmth.

And remembered.

She remembered those days when Wufei depended on her. Remembered them with a fond smile, because she'd liked it. Had liked that Wufei had needed her and liked that she could point to that moment when their relationship changed. When things between them evened out, became something so much more.

"I kinda liked you leaning on me back then..." she tilted her head to look up at Wufei then and moved a hand to jab her boyfriend in the ribs. "... Are you seriously thinking about that right now?"

It had been difficult, but in the end Wufei had found that week to be particularly revealing. It told him all he needed to know about himself, about Duo, and the relationship between them. It had dispelled a couple of terrible misconceptions Wufei had bouncing around in his head and had put in their place something beautiful and peaceful.

He laughed again when she jabbed him. "No, no, of course not. And I liked it, too, when I stopped feeling so scared. It was nice, to feel like I could let my guard down for once. To trust you whole-heartedly. To have that certainty of knowing you would never betray me," he sighed softly. "I certainly didn't know it at the time, but I think that was the week I fell in love with you."

She looked at him, wide eyes widening just that little more in surprise before her expression softened. Had he really thought that? Honestly, Duo had thought she'd needed to work hard to get to the 'love' part, that Wufei had just been fond of her for the longest time. But hearing that? She shifted to the side and leaned over to press a gentle kiss to his cheek.

"Never ever betray you." She'd sooner kill herself than ever hurt Wufei. It wasn't a competition, she didn't say that she'd loved Wufei long before. Maybe always had. Or at least had crushed on him hard. Being around him so much during that time when he was blind had just solidified it all in her mind. "... And you can still love me, even like this?"

He smiled at her, humming in agreement. But that last question had him scoffing. "Of course I can, I..." but he stopped himself, because he recognized why she asked in the first place, the impression he'd given off plenty of times, and sighed, shaking his head. "I can, and I will," he said softly. "I don't hate women. I'm just afraid of failing to protect them. Or worse, that they'll sacrifice themselves for me -- that's what my wife did," he admitted quietly. But this place was a peaceful one, and despite his habit of getting into fights, there wasn't likely to be a scenario where anyone was going to need to sacrifice themselves to protect another.

"Besides. It's you I love, not your body."

Duo stretched her arms over and slipped them around Wufei's neck, pulling herself closer, and then directly across his lap. "You know..." She spoke just as softly, voice pitched low as she brought her head down to press her forehead against his. "... I think being able to give your life to save someone you love is... pretty damn amazing. To care about someone that much? I'd die for you." She pulled back then, just a little. Just enough to catch his gaze. "But I'd rather live for you."

There was a pause, then the corner of her lips twitched. "... Huh. So you don't like my body, Wufei?"

He watched her move, smiling as his hands settled comfortably around her waist. When she spoke about being willing to die for him, he paled a couple of shades, huffing a little when she caught his gaze and finished that sentiment. There was nothing he feared more than watching her die and doing it because of him. To protect him, or even just because he'd fucked up that badly. It didn't matter. The idea of watching the life fade from her face was too much.

Enough that he almost didn't hear the last question. "What?" he croaked, blinking owlishly. He was gonna get emotional whiplash if she wasn't careful. "I never said that!"

If given the choice, she wouldn't want to die. Maybe once upon a time she'd been ready and willing. And if push came to shove, she would give everything to ensure that Wufei lived... But she truly hoped it would never, ever come down to that. Because now she had him, now she knew what love felt like, what waking up each morning within the arms of someone she adored could be like. After knowing that, she couldn't ever lose it. She would fight tooth and claw to live. To spend the rest of her life with Wufei.

Yanno... if he didn't end up in the doghouse for the rest of his life.

She arched a brow at him. "Pretty sure you did." Duo was trying not to grin. It was so damn hard! "You said it was me you loved, not my body." She gave a sorrowful sigh, chin dropping, eyes downcast and her bangs falling within them, further shielding them from view. "... Didn't realise you were so turned off by me..." Was that a sniffle? Or was that a stifled giggle? Hard to tell!

He felt like he was on the verge of being in the doghouse right then and there! He cleared his throat as she teased him. He knew she wasn't serious, but it was damn hard for him to remember that when she was hamming it up so much.

But he was nothing if not clever, and if she thought she could outmaneuver him, she was in for a surprise. He slid his hands down, grabbing the curve of her ass firmly in hand. "If you'd like me to show you how much I like your body, I'd be happy to impregnate you," he said it as blandly as if he were talking about the nice, cool breeze that was starting to pick up a little.

Duo honestly expected Wufei to start backpeddling some more, not to go straight for her ass! Which she did. Pulling a surprised little gasp from her... that ended with her laughing. A burst of bright laughter coupled with a grin. Partly because of just how easily those words had fallen from Wufei's lips... and mostly because those words had fallen from his lips! How he could say that with a straight face was beyond Duo!

"Sure sure... the way to show you love my body is to utterly ruin it for the next nine months until an actual human is forced outta me like some crazy sci-fi horror movie?" Duo smirked and leaned forward then, using her arms around Wufei to pull her closer, her chest pressing against him, her cheek brushing his while her lips delicately graze her lovers ear. Softly she whispers. "If you wanted to fuck me raw, you shoulda just said, Wu."

He couldn't help laughing with her, and shook his head a little at her horrific description of pregnancy. Not that he could blame her -- the actual mechanics of the feat really were things he preferred not to think too hard about.

And then she had to go and do that, which elicited a response she would absolutely be able to feel. He cleared his throat. "I think you underestimate my desire to be a father," he managed to get out, voice low and rough already. His hands gripped a little more firmly as he got to his feet, holding her up with relative ease and heading for the door. "I'll just have to show you."

Duo did expect a reaction. And she got one. It was the words that really surprised her and it took until Wufei had stood up with her for her to find words of her own. But not before she wrapped her legs around his waist, clinging onto him tighter.

"... You want kids?" she asked softly, the teasing tone leaving her voice in favour of something more...tender. And just like that, Duo wished that whatever curse she'd been put under would stick. At least long enough to give Wufei what he wanted. She'd not realised Wufei had felt strongly about it one way or another. And it shocked her just how easily she found herself accepting it, and how willing she would be to go through with it, if she'd had the ability.

Her hand moved to the back of Wufei's head, fingers sinking into his hair as Duo leaned in and pressed soft kisses along the length of her lovers neck up to his jaw, then whispered onto his ear for a second time. "Please...show me. Show me your desire."

It was Duo's fault. All her fault for making Wufei's brain short-circuit when her legs curled tight around him. "Mmhmm," he agreed softly, leaning in to take a soft little kiss as he let go with one arm to open the front door and get them in. "I'd given up on it, but... yes. Very much," he admitted, leaning back against the door once they were inside and letting his eyes slide closed as she teased him.

"I don't have any condoms," he warned her. "If you don't want to go through pregnancy..." he wasn't going to try and convince her.

"Wufei..." She breathed softly, eyes closing as she pressed her nose to his cheek, her lips to his jaw in soft, feather-light kisses. "... You know as well as me these things don't last... I could turn back into a guy by morning." Duo didn't want him to get his hopes up. Throw in what she knew about the screwy magic of this world, even if she could be a woman for longer, she had no idea if she could even carry a child to term...

"I wish... I wish so much it was something I could give you." A hand rose, gently cupping one of his cheeks, her thumb stroking as she moved her lips finally to his own. "But...if this is something that's gonna last...who the fuck needs condoms? Never bothered me before and it's not gonna bother me now."

He let out a long sigh when she dragged him back down to reality. "I know," he agreed wearily, leaning into her touch and sliding one of his hands up her back. He returned the kiss when she gave it, sighing happily and letting his eyes slide closed, only to laugh when she spoke again.

"Alright, then," he murmured, pushing off the door and carrying her easily to the bedroom. "I promise to make it as comfortable as possible," he assured, as he gently lowered her onto her back atop the bed.

Oh, now that hurt in a way Duo didn't like at all. Disappointing Wufei made her feel sick to her stomach, made her want to pull back her words, reel them all back in and replace them with promises and encouragement. Assurances that they could do this, even if the world around them would put a stop to it...

But then Wufei is laughing for her and Duo throws her arms back around him, legs tightening because now they were on the move and she didn't want to be dropped.

Soon they were in their bedroom and Wufei was so very gentle with her... And now it was her turn to laugh, his words bringing an affectionately confused smile. "Comfortable?" Duo questions playfully. "Is that what we're going for here?" He'd never promised her that before.

It wasn't her fault that he'd gotten his hopes up so foolishly. He knew this place was full of weird magic and enchantments that were often only a week or so in length, but she felt so much like a woman... he'd remembered just how much he'd wanted a family of his own, until that option was stolen away from him by war.

"Well," he drawled, as he started easing up the hem of her shirt. "Unless I've misread the situation considerably, you're still going to have a... closed gate." A hymen. The word he was looking for was hymen.

Duo, her smile more confused by that term, just stares for a few moments. Long enough for Wufei to push her shirt up. Helping things along, Duo sat up a little and raised her arms for it to be pulled off completely. There was no bra in the way, up until a few hours ago she'd still been a guy!

All of this felt so... strange. Wufei's hands on her were as familiar as her own, though she supposed now her hands were completely unfamiliar. This body wasn't hers. Or, technically, maybe it was? Duo had the utmost faith in Wufei. And even if there had been a single doubt in her mind... when Wufei pulled away, the look in his eyes would have quickly banished those thoughts.
